Praise Song: Promises (Maverick City)

(This is a longer post)

I have had this song pop up in my playlists (and in my mind) so many times over the past few weeks, that I can't ignore it any longer. So, here is a section by section breakdown of this beautiful song:

Faithful through the ages God of Abraham You're the God of covenant and faithful promises Time and time again You have proven You'll do just what You said

Our God is faithful. Our God is good. What Our God promises, we can expect to happen. Just as God promised Abraham a son when he and Sarah should not have been able to have a child, God is making promises to us, promises that seem impossible and way beyond our reach. Abraham stopped trusting for a child by Sarah and instead tried to have a baby with the maid. But that was not the child they were supposed to have. They were promised a child, together. See, having a vision from God is good, but unless it's clear it can lead to mistakes. More than that, unclear vision, vision without corresponding revelation revealed through prayer, can lead to unfaithful and improper actions. Unclear vision can often make us feel like we have to do it on our own. But God, out of His grace and abundance of goodness gave them Isaac anyway. Even when they weren't faithful to God, God was faithful to them. And the same goes for us. Even when we aren't faithful to God, God will remain faithful

Take a moment to think. What is your Isaac? What is the promise that you're waiting for God to deliver? And do you trust God enough to wait, or are you going to fuck around and try to make it happen on your own?

Though the storms may come And the winds may blow, I'll remain steadfast And let my heart learn when You speak a word It will come to pass

Life may have hard times. And there may be pressures I feel like I cannot face. But I will remain in God's Love and presence. When I feel the effects of the storm, I will remember what God has already promised me.

When I feel depression fall upon me, I will remember that God has promised to accept all of my burdens. When I feel anxiety fall upon me, I will remember that God has promised to be my eternal Peace, a peace beyond all understanding, a deep sense of calm even when the waves are crashing all around me

When I am struggling with strongholds, bad habits, dependencies, and/or addictions, I will remember that we fight from a place of victory, not for victory because God has already won the war and promised us eternal life (if we accept it)

When I feel unloved, I will remember that God loves me beyond comprehension. I will remember that God has promised to love me, endlessly, boldly, and radically. God's love for me is not dependent on me, but reliant on Him

I will remember in my times of turbulence that when God makes a promise, it will come to pass

Great is Your faithfulness to me Great is Your faithfulness to me From the rising sun to the setting same I will praise Your name Great is Your faithfulness to me, oh

Take a minute to think of all the things that God has done for you, how God has been faithful to you. And if you can't think of something, either you're not thinking hard enough (the fact that you're still here means that God has been faithful to you by giving you life and breath and heartbeat, just to start by naming a few) or you have not experienced God in a way that you've recognized as God. Happy coincidences. The little voice that gives you great advice. Gut instinct. All three are examples of how God has been faithful to you, providing you with what you need. In either case, if you spend just a little time in God's presence, I'm sure that God would reveal a bit of faithfulness to you. Try it out. If it works, that's great! If it doesn't, you can dismiss the idea as religious psycho-babble. But God has changed my life dramatically for the better (as He has countless others) and I believe that He could do the same for you.

And. If you want to learn more about how to do that, please reach out to me and I would be more than happy to help you find your relationship with the God of the Universe. The God of Creation. The God who wants nothing more than to spend time with you. The God who loves you. The God of faithful promises

Yeah, God from age to age Though the earth may pass away Your word remains the same, yeah Your history can prove There's nothing You can't do You're faithful and true

God does not change. God is the same today as yesterday as He will be tomorrow. (That does not mean, however, that we, as a collective body of believers never change how we view and experience God.) When I look back on my life so far, especially the past three years, I see a God that has been faithful to me when I wasn't faithful to God, or even to myself. I'm sure I'll eventually write about some of that faithfulness, but right now, I don't even know where to begin...

Though the storms may come And the winds may blow, I'll remain steadfast And let my heart learn when You speak a word, it will come to pass

I will remember in my times of turbulence that when God makes a promise, it will come to pass

Great is Your faithfulness to me, woah Great is Your faithfulness, from the rising sun From the rising sun to the setting same I will praise Your Name, oh Great is Your faithfulness to me
Oh oh, Your faithfulness It never runs out, it never runs out (yeah) Oh oh, Your faithfulness, oh oh It never runs out, it never runs out It never runs out, it never runs out
I put my faith in Jesus My anchor to the ground My hope and firm foundation He'll never let me down, no

I try to base everything I do in Love because Jesus first loved me. I try to make all of my big decisions (and the goal is eventually all of my small decisions, too) with the guidance and advice of Holy Spirit. I tried living my own way. And, most people would probably say that I was living right. (And I grew up Christian, going to church very regularly and everything.) But it always felt like something was missing. And what I've come to realize over the past few years was that I had believed in God and had accepted Christ into my life, but I had kept Jesus in the "Good Room" of my life, not giving God any power to heal broken areas of my life. And I had actually been actively stopping God from entering into any of the other rooms. My house was a mess inside, and I felt like I had to clean it up before I let God in. But over the past few years, I have been trying to open all of the rooms of my life for God to enter into. And sometimes, it feels like I have to break down the walls because the doors no longer exist

I put my faith in Jesus My anchor to the ground (hope and firm foundation) He's my hope and firm foundation (He'll never let me down) He'll never let me down

Also, check out Anchored, a great series from Transformation Church talking about anchoring your life to Jesus, the only stable anchor for all of life's storms, so that when the storms do come, your life doesn't get tossed too and from, being thrown off course

Oh I put, I put my trust in Jesus (yes I do) My anchor to the ground (my hope and firm foundation) My hope and firm foundation (he'll never let me down) He'll never let me down (never let me down, I put my faith in Jesus)
I put my faith in Jesus (my anchor to the ground) My anchor to the ground (He's my hope) My hope and firm foundation (my only hope, my only hope) He'll never let me down He'll never let me down (oh, oh, grateful)
Great is Your faithfulness to me (oh sing it out) Great is Your faithfulness (from the rising sun) From the rising sun to the setting same I will praise Your name (in every season) Great is your faithfulness to me (say I put my faith)
I put my faith in Jesus My anchor to the ground (He's my hope) My hope and firm foundation (and He's never let me down) He'll never let me down (I put my faith)
I put my faith in Jesus My anchor, my anchor to the ground (He's my hope) My hope and firm foundation (never let me down) He'll never let me down (come on sing it out)
Say I put my faith I put my faith in Jesus My anchor to the ground (my anchor to the ground) My hope and, my hope and firm foundation (never let me down) He'll never let me down (never let me, I put my faith in Jesus)
I put my faith in Jesus (my anchor to the ground) My anchor to the ground (He's my hope and my firm foundation) My hope and firm foundation (He'll never let me down) He'll never let me down (no, no, He'll never let me down) He'll never let me down (oh)
Great, great is Your faithfulness to me (great is...) Great is Your faithfulness From the rising sun (from the rising sun to the setting same) (Hey) I will praise Your name (from the rising sun) From the rising sun to the setting same (let's go) I will praise Your name (from the rising sun)
From the rising sun to the setting same (let it go up, and let it go down) I will praise Your name (I still bless You, I'll still praise You) From the rising sun to the setting same (let it go up then let it go down) I will praise Your name (and I'll still bless You, Lord, I'll still bless You)

From morning until night, from now until death, I will praise God. I will do everything in my power to live in the Love that God has for me. I will do my best to live out the Love that God has for those around me

If they do not believe in the same God that I do, I will love them anyway. If they have hurt me, I will forgive them and love them anyway. ("Forgiveness University" may help you with the process of forgiveness, which is never for them and always for you. I know it has helped me immensely and allowed a new sense of freedom to enter into my life.) If they feel unloveable, as I often do, I will show them that they are, in fact, loved. I will love, radically and endlessly because God loves, radically and endlessly

From the rising sun to the setting same (let it go up then let it come down) I will praise Your name (and I'll still bless You, I'll still bless You) From the rising sun to the setting same (I'll still bless You, I'll still bless You) I will praise Your name (I'll still bless You, great is...)
Great is Your faithfulness to me (I'll still bless You) Great is Your faithfulness to me (I'll still bless You, I'll still bless you) From the rising sun to the setting same (I'll still bless You) I will praise Your name (I'll still bless You) Great is Your faithfulness to me (I'll still bless You)

I will remember in my times of turbulence that when God makes a promise, it will come to pass

Yes I'll still bless You In the middle of the storm (yeah) In the middle of my trial (yeah) I'll still bless You In the middle of the road When I don't know where to go

Take this fainted heart

Take these tainted hands

Wash me in Your love

Come like grace again

...

Take this mountain weight

Take these ocean tears

Hold me through the trial

Come like hope again

...

I'll praise You

Even when it makes no sense to sing

Louder then I'll sing Your praise

I'll still bless You (yeah) In the middle of my storm In the middle of my trial I'll still bless You (yeah) When I'm in the middle of the road And I don't know which way to go (I'll still)
I'll still bless You I'll still bless You, huh I'll still bless You, oh I'll still bless You I've got a reason to bless You, yeah, huh I've got a reason to bless You

I will love, radically and endlessly because God loves, radically and endlessly

I'll still bless you (I've got a reason to bless Your name) You've been faithful You've been faithful (I'll still bless You) You've been so good to me You've been so good (come on, just lift up your prayer) (Just lift up your worship to Him)
You've been so good, You've been so good Lift us now, this body, this feeling We're filled with Your praise We bless Your name, oh I'll still bless You, oh I'll still bless You, oh I'll still bless You, oh I'll still bless You (great is Your faithfulness)
Great is Your faithfulness to me (c'mon) Great is, great is Your faithfulness to me From the rising sun, from the rising sun to the setting same I will praise Your name (from the rising sun) From the rising sun to the setting same (oh my God) I will praise Your name (from the rising sun)
From the rising sun to the setting same I will praise Your name (praise, yeah)

I will love, radically and endlessly because God loves, radically and endlessly
